Fishbowl Theatre Debuts in August with "The House of Yes" Toronto -- Fishbowl Theatre, a new collaboration of Toronto
actors and directors, will present Wendy MacLeod's dark comedy The House of Yes from August 17 to 26, 2000.
"Fishbowl was created specifically to present plays that revolve around the taboo," says
Chloë Whitehorn, the company's founder. "The House of Yes
certainly doesn't skimp on that." MacLeod's 1990 play revolves around a dysfunctional Virginia family's experiments with incest, insanity and the Kennedy assassination.
Fishbowl Theatre's contributing talents
include veterans of Hart House Theatre, Renaissance Stage Company, Rhino Productions, Second City, the Atlantic Drama Festival, and numerous Fringe festivals. Director Ingrid Keenan says there is a strong common value
among the cast about taking on 'outside' subjects.
"A play isn't about an issue just because it acknowledges the issue; a play is written to entertain," Keenan says. "We can be provocative without
turning into a lecture on morality."
The House of Yes
runs August 17-19 and 23-26 at 8:00pm and August 20 at 3:00pm at the Alumnae Theatre upstairs, 70 Berkeley Street. Tickets are $12, $10 for students and seniors and are available at the door or in advance by calling (416)699-0500 to reserve. The Sunday, August 20th matinee is
pay-what-you-can.
